Social Security Disibility

Just wondering how many members are receiving Social Security Disability or have applied. Please share your stories.

Welcome to ICadvice, Pamela

Hi Pamela,

A warm welcome to ICadvice.com!

I'm afraid that I don't have any firsthand personal experience with applying for SSD, as I live in Canada. I do know however that the ICA has a very helpful page about SSD (Social Security Disability), though you may have encountered that page already yourself.

Over the years I've seen various sites talk about IC and applying for/receiving disability benefits, but not all of them are trustworthy or particularly factually accurate (avoid any site where they want you to buy an "ebook" or pay for the "secret" knowledge that they claim they can provide you with), but anything that the ICA or ICN puts out is 100% trustworthy. And certainly I know that you can contact either of these groups and they'll likely be able to help you further in terms of more links/ideas.

I hope that others on this site reply to your question, I too am various curious to hear firsthand about cases involving IC and SSD. I know one Canadian ICer whose received disability benefits up here, but she also has a few other serious, chronic pain conditions, so I can't conclusively say that she received it because of her IC alone. I know a few other Canadian ICers who have applied and been shot down (which is so immensely, horribly wrong, IMO). I think that in either country it is a challenging (and often unjust) process, but if you opt to (or have already started to) apply for SSD, I truly wish you all the luck in the world.

Please don't hesitate to ask any other questions that you have here, Pamela.

Hugs,
Jessica
